Tree Concept

This task was to create a tree with character

I did not really have an idea for this to begin with so i started with some research images.

I then researched real tree's to get an idea of how to begin my painting.

I liked the idea of creating a scene with an enormous tree as the centre point so I began by roughly doodling in photoshop which became the base sketch. I included a small character to show the scale of this tree.

As I started to paint my values into the scene it became apparent that it would take a very long time to make it apparent to others what I was trying to achieve.

To solve this problem I started using textures which I believed helped to get the idea I wanted across.

This was my first attempt at the tree, I enjoyed the concept of this idea but I should have stuck with a much simpler concept piece like in the ones I researched as the time limitations made this difficult to finish.

I attempted a second try at the tree, I went for a much more realistic version this time, however I made the same mistake as before and attempted to do another full scene. The idea behind this tree was it is so large that people often try to climb it like a mountain, planting flags and banners on it to show how high they had managed to get.

The process is very similiar to that of the first concept, I achieved a much more realistic looking tree in this attempt but once again was unable to finish.

What I need to take away from this is to really read the brief and understand what is being asked of me, instead of attempting to do too much I need to simplify my ideas in order to be able to meet the deadlines.
